NUS Faculty
of Engineering Professor Teoh Swee Hin ’s
team, winner of the Gold Award at the Asian Innovation
Awards
After evaluating a compelling business plan
submitted to NUS’ Industry & Technology
Relations Office (INTRO) earlier this year, INTRO
and Temasek Polytechnic’s International Relations
& Industry Services (IRIS) enthusiastically
licensed technology to Osteopore International PTE
LTD, a Singapore-based NUS/Temasek Polytechnic start-up
company. The innovations contained in Osteopore’s
business plan received further endorsement and accolade
when NUS Faculty of Engineering Professor Teoh Swee
Hin ’s team won gold for innovation at the
Asian Innovation Awards held in association with
the Global Entropolis@ Singapore event this October.
From 84 submissions for this award, Professor Teoh’s
team was honoured as this year’s best innovator
and received the award from Singapore President
SR Nathan, the guest of honour for this event.
Key members of the team include Professor Teoh Swee
Hin, Assistant Professor D.W. Hutchmacher, Dr. Lim
Thiam Chye, Dr. J.T. Schantz, and Dr. Chou Ning
from NUS and Mr. Tan Kim Cheng from Temasek Polytechnic.
Together they enabled a technology to produce bioresorbable
scaffold material and a bioresorbable implant that
is used for covering trephination burr holes in
neurosurgery. In Professor Teoh Swee Hin ’s
